First day after announcing I quit Aporia…post # 1

Had to post

Apparently this withdrawal may have to begin with microdosing.

Forced to stay inside till it warms up a bit. -13*C this morn. Less than enticing.

But today is egg candling and seedling space set up. Gotta keep moving!.

Nafeez Ahmed on Synchronous Failure and Post-Pandemic Systems Change. Smart guys, interesting talk. Podcast available on most platforms.

Wrap things up..

I’ve managed to stumble through life with an optimistic curious contrarian mindset, shielded by a very healthy dose of scheptism. Thirty five years skating through the jungle that was small business gave me a pretty clear understanding of people and how we relate to each other in our world. Hint: not well.

I could generally lead with an open heart, but had to cultivate careful protection techniques to protect from the “frailty of humans”. Keep the guard up, but explore and be curious and give most people the benefit of the doubt until proven out. That’s me.

The average humanoid is not like this. By spending an inordinate amount of time keeping warm, safe, dry, carefully ignoring reality, and aquiring dumpsters filled with shiney shit, most adults have come to this precise spot in time, abruptly slamming into the brick wall of whats really going on. Most need saving.

Humans blessed with a single firing neuron have to see that C-19 is the BIG disruptor. ( ahem…. ok perhaps a couple). Have to see the ineptness of leadership worldwide. Have to see that programs, systems, and institutions once thought capable of carrying us from birth to casket, can’t. Have to seriously be thinking,” What next?!”

We are looking at a different world as it unfolds realtime, brutally in front of our disbelieving eyes. I for one cannot get over how every world Gooberment has misplayed this: lack of a plan, lack of PPE, and the inability to think on the fly. And the fallback? business as usual. Lets support the industries that got us here by pouring the money to their failed hopes. But they are strong donors.

For example our cherished Green Sock Wearing leader giving (GIVING?! for fucks sake GIVING!) $1.7 billion to Alberta to assist with the cleaning up of abandoned oil wells. And since you likely don’t know about this issue: Most oil companies set each well up as a separate corporation. Under their oil license they are responsible for well head cleanup and remediation upon well depletion. Guess what?! They don’t. They walk away, declare that corporation bankrupt, leaving the taxpayer to pick up the tab. Leaving the land a toxic waste site, unable to be used for anything. Currently estimates to clean up Alberta’s abandoned wells is estimated at $50 Billion. Imagine the US shale play?

  • CRUDE #4 – Orphan Wells: Citizen Con. podcast by Canadaland. Its a 10 part series on the Tomfuckery by Canadas oil industry. An excellent overview of the $50 billion turd awaiting Albertans. And if Jason Kenney can do anything about it, the rest of us. Also available on other podcasts.

When I hear a leader from Alberta screetch to us about the unfairness of their relationship to the rest of Canada, Pleeeese! (you too Saskatchewan). If they had done only two things over the past 40 years they would not be in this situation. They should have forced oil companies to deal with this and invested their revenue into their Heritage Fund bullshit bafflegab nonsense for future diversification away from oil. 100 years ago they arrived, found they had great wealth buried under ground, squandered it, and now need help. (pretty much sums up all of North America, Europe, Asia, Africa). I find myself less than supportive. The world is filled with stories just like this. Every industry, every Gooberment, all with no long term plan, no understanding of risk assessment, not even a basic understanding of life on this planet. Nada. Couldn’t run a 3 item garage sale.

We all should be looking at the future. Coming out of whatever lockdown we are under, we won’t be buying things other than the basic necessities, no new debt, no bank lending, worried for jobs, kids, homes. But the majority hold out hope for a speedy return to normal once the curve has been flattened.

Not going to happen Dear Cherished Four. We can’t even deal with this tiny blip of C-19. Should have, but can’t.

The financial devastation showing up will place us all in a very vulnerable spot. As will the collapse of the oil industry, Big Ag, tourism, and aviation and a pile of others we can’t anticipate.

Word of the Day: Logorrhea – excessive and often incoherent talkativeness or wordiness.

I’ve been having my Logorrhea moment lately. In which I’ve come to realize that I have prattled on for long enough. I have come to the end of my time here doing the Aporiacafe thing. Been at it in various forms for 10 years. If you are familiar with my physical appearance showing up at your front door you have heard it all before. A few listen.

Just had Mom Nature leave 4″ of snow as a calling card today. I remain cautious that spring will come. That means gardens to work and build, fruit trees to nurture, chicks to hatch, new pigs and sheep to figure out, a myriad of things far more positive and soul nurturing than delving into the black, putrid, bowels of why we are here and how we get out of it (Hint: greed, hubris, psychopaths, indifference).

There are new issues looming; food shortages, civil unrest, mortgage failure, bank failure, big changes. I need to deal with them unencumbered with the soul destroying task that is trying to understand it, explain it and pass it on.

The next 20 years will not be like the last 20.

A couple things to note.

  • I’m looking for someone to take over Aporiacafe. No rules, do what you want. Contact me if interested. The site is paid up till Oct I believe. After that will drift off into the ether.
  • I’ll be putting up a new site detailing whats happening in my attempt at a Permaculture /Restorative /Regenerative /Homesteading life. I’m going into year four, I think I have stuff of interest (to me). I’ll let all know when this goes live. Won’t be for a week or two.

Prepare for change. I’m told humans are good at adapting.

Stay Engaged, Heads up!

ps Had to end with a toon of one of the truly great shit bags in the world. Can’t help myself. Guess that means there could be a post or two before Oct.

April 18, 2020; COVID 2019, Code RED – über-hubris

There is no evidence that people who have recovered from coronavirus have immunity to the disease,

the World Health Organisation

“Because not looking for politics or profit is #Science! Or that’s what Science has become now anyway.”

Dr D.

People generally fall into a few categories when it comes to “awareness”. Most just want to go about their lives gathering shiney shit and enjoying their TV shows….The Sheeple. Another group sits outside the Sheeple, consider them the Foxes. They, thru some sort of sociopathic tendencies deem it their right to take as much from the Sheeple as they can.

The Sheeple reward the Foxes with worship bordering idolotry, cause they have money. Not because the Foxes have demonstrated any higher social tendancies and forward the good of the group of Sheeple. Simply that they have money, lotsa shiney shit and a whole lot of self promoting gumption.

So this “awareness” or lack thereof is simply an understanding that Sheeple and Foxes even exist. Some Sheeple might have a small glimmer of understanding of this twisted relationship but most shake it off as an oddity. The smallest group of people are aware and have several paths to dealing with this: get taggged as a tinfoil hat wearer, disguise themselves as a Sheeple/Fox as suits their situation, walk away, go completely bonkers.

Now the curtains are pulled back and we get to see the Foxes scurrying frantically to keep whats theirs, whilst the Sheeple patiently wait for the time to get back to their aquisition of shiney shit.

I had hoped for more pushback. Our “world” of shiney stuff was never real. It was based upon multiple generations belief in a system of shiney stuff. Even if that shiney stuff was the root cause of the planets demise, our ability to have a future, our kids to have a future or humanity to even exist. To be able to look at this Sheeple/Fox Dance of Death (SFDD) is the first step in true awareness. But it means accepting that the future is filled with tough choices. That shiney is not best. That a good future is better. That the Foxes need to go and the Sheeple need to get their shit together before there is no way forward.

The past 50 years of planet destruction, resource depletion, crushing of people will end. The issue is, will we be behind the forces that develop a better world or will that world stop being our home and become humanities casket. (much sooner than you think).

  1. Only a monumental effort of political imagination can end lockdown. by Jonathan Freedland. “The methods – whether it’s mass testing or contact-tracing – matter less than the huge shift in thinking that is required”.
  2. The Perfect Killing Machine. by Dr. David Healy. Here’s a perfect example of the Sheeple/Fox dynamics. You thought that the research behind that medicine you or your parents take had full peer review? That the proper officials had overseen the research and verified it? For that matter, what is research? For all medicines, vaccines etc.? Follow the $$$ to the Fox den. That C-19 vaccine you’re waiting for…. you first.
  3. How COVID-19 Showed America’s Dependence on Blue-Collar Workers. by Tom Conway. I guess it makes sense to some. Indentured workers, can’t afford not to get paid, must work. Deemed essential. Paid slave wages to stay on front lines serving, so that those with the wealth can stay at home and have staples delivered to them.
  4. From Here to Dystopia. Not with a Bang, But a Cough by John Feffer. “Trump’s incompetence in the face of Covid-19 has helped cause a soaring American death toll. The U.S. is being serially laid to waste, a reality for which he accepts no responsibility. Unlike Oedipus Rex, Trump Rex has not the slightest interest in confronting the truth of his sins or the horror of his actions. Don’t expect the president to put out his own eyes, as Oedipus does at the end of the play. No need, in fact. Trump has always been blind and, not surprisingly, his blind ambition combined with his blind greed has culminated in an administration in which the blind are indeed leading the blind.”
  5. We’re Not Going Back to Normal. by Michael Maharrey. “It assumes everything was “normal” to begin with. It wasn’t normal. The economy was a big, fat, ugly debt bubble. Normal was abnormal. The economy was levered up to the hilt. Consumers were driving the economy with borrowed money. Corporations were already carrying record debt-loads. The government was already spending money as if we were in the depths of an economic recession. Coronavirus popped the bubble. It pulled the last piece out of the Jenga game. It turned a fan on the house of cards. We’re not going back to normal any time soon.”
  6. Flight Path. by Jim Kunstler. “The Covid-19 corona virus didn’t initiate the financial disorders of the moment in the US and Europe, but it ensured that there would not be another appearance of any “recovery” a la the central bank interventions of 2008-09. What it portends is a fast-track journey to a whole new disposition of things: first, for a while, a harsher, hungrier, angrier society of broken promises and dashed expectations; and then adaptation when a consensus emerges that the set of facts at hand amount to a new reality.

Pay attention.

Its complicated.

Start by questioning every one of your core beliefs.

April 15, 2020; COVID 2019, Code RED – Now What!?

“As the pandemic crisis recedes, we will have to choose between a society that addresses human needs or one in which a survival-of-the-fittest ethos becomes the only organizing principle of society.

Henry A. Giroux

Watching this C-19 shit show unravel, the health side, the economic side, the blatant pro corporate politics, makes me wonder who exactly is watching this from the 100,000 ft level. Does anyone have a clue?

Does this not shine an eirie light on all our world views, as we thought it to be? All’s well in the world, no worries. Climate change, financial chaos, peak oil, social chaos, meh.

This C-19 is not a black swan. It was predictable, had been predicted, even had some planning in place. But for a pile of reasons; OK money, nothing was ready as it should have been, our leaders ignored it. Even as proof comes out they knew of it. Now we hear the excuses and blaming.

And they flounder around trying to keep the old world order of Corporate control of our government, that which says the market will guide us. And we watch the wizards behind the screen, on full display being the incompetant boobs we suspected them to be.

Best example: wear or not wear face masks. Common sense says that if it is asymptomatic, and aerosol transmitted that one should wear a mask. I don’t need a virology/PhD/MD diploma to figure that out. And yet. For weeks we have watched Gooberment leaders vacillate on this simple issue. Still no real direction. They basically screwed up by not having any, needed to provide front line health care providers, and couldn’t. So they waffled on doing anything, were unable to say, “We screwed up, we need to save them for healthcare providers and you should make your own and wear them”. Nope. Six weeks of absolute Keystonion behaviour. These people couldn’t run a 5 item garage sale. And these are our guides forward. And don’t get me going on testing….

We sit waiting to see what our fate will be under C-19. And the same assholes will be propping up the economy so that Corporations can keep making money, whilst we the Sheeple have less and less, to the point we resemble 13th century pheasants toiling in the fields.

I have managed to keep my mouth shut over the past 3 weeks, there was a ton of unknowns. It was easy to see C-19 gather steam in China, be ignored everywhere else, watch our leaders deny, obfuscate, simply ignore the details in China. It was easy to yell warnings at loved ones. It was easy to have my hair go up in flames each day as C-19 crept closer and our own Gooberments did sqwat.

It wasn’t easy to figure out what to do next. Of course isolation, stay at homeness and careful interaction. And so much bullshit being dangled by the New-Experts. The ones who woke up in mid March and had it figured out. Not so much how to emerge from this and deal with the new world that will be there.

It’s been galling, very chilling, and highly irritating to hear our leaders promise: “we have your backs”, “2 weeks”, “we deeply care about the average person”, “we will do whatever it takes”, “we are on this 24/7”. Its all part of the system we have let permeate our lives. Pretty words, followed up with ……… very little.

I’d like an apology, complete with a plan, with concrete examples of how these new systems will improve our lives. It won’t be easy, or without mistakes, but how about moving forward with some truth? oh yeah…. when monkeys fly out of my butt.

Instead; we are grievously short of PPE, test kits, ventilators, no one has a clue what this C-19 is or how to deal with it. But for sure there will be a rush to open up for business and the resultant 2nd wave. Cause you know…… the economy.

So here we sit, bunkered down as best we can, with no clue to how dangerous C-19 is, no ability to test in numbers that matter, no idea how long this will last and what the world will be when its over. And for some, a sinking feeling of dread for changes coming to our way of life.

Most expect a back to normal transition in 2 weeks possibly 4. Get over yourself. In the grand scheme you are the equivalent of a grain of sand on a rather large beach. You have to look after you (and yours). Coming fast at us: food shortages, massive unemployment, stock market collapse, retirement plans collapsed, collapse of business, much more aggressive and beligerent behaviour from the “powers”. And absolutely no guidance or planning or preparedness and all neatly covered up with whole pile of lies.

Welcome to the Crashing ’20s. Where we get to watch Gooberments who have proven to be incapable of preparing for an easily predictable pandemic, struggle to pull us out of it, while marching us blindly into the Giant Turdball shower coming our way.

Just as predictable, just as ineptly.

“I just don’t see the practical potential for knowing who to blame during a time when What To Do is of paramount importance.”

boscohorowitz on Automatic Earth comments.

I’d suggest you actually read these articles. Three weeks readings distilled into 3 fairly important articles. Big ideas, big words (get that dictionary out!). Or you can rely on a speaking head to give you their words du jour and subsequent bowl of shit. From here on, its all about your own actions.

  1. The Only Man Who Has A Clue. by Raul Ilargi Meijer. Real risk management. Real smart. No wonder you don’t hear him more.
  2. First the People. Read this article by Rusty Guinn of Epsilon Theory. Take a day to digest it. Imagine what our world will look like in 10 years doing the same thing(s). Imagine your world, family, job, security, community. How will they fare? Do you believe it will better or worse?
  3. Economies won’t be able to recover after shutdowns. by Gail Tverberg. Some pragmatic thinking to penetrate the unreal fog of the V shaped recovery talk.

“The hologram of capital that was not really there dissolves before our eyes. That capital, you understand, was our notion of how wealthy we used to be, like, five minutes ago. And now the capital, the money, the mojo of modern life is going-going-gone. The hologram was projected by a fantastically hypercomplex hologram machine jerry-rigged with frauds, swindles, and false promises to pay tomorrow for that proverbial hamburger today. The people running it left the robots in charge and went off to frolic with the likes of Jeffrey Epstein, speaking of the profane. Then, the hologram machine broke and the iridescent image just plumb flickered out.

Heres the beginnings of a List of Info Sources:

Move along…

No change. Our North American gooberments scramble as they try to contain this shitstorm.

We can just sit and think about it. Some even seething at whats going on. Seething because this was all so unnecessay. We should have been on top of it 6 weeks ago. But we weren’t. So we isolate, waiting for a sign it has abated and we can come out of our little rabbit holes to whatever is left.

Stay Strong, Resilient and virus free.

“ There’s a concept of economy and efficiency. You should have just enough beds for what you need tomorrow. You shouldn’t prepare for the future. Right? So the hospital system’s crashing. Simple things like tests which you can easily get in a country South Korea, you can’t get here.

So the coronavirus, which should be controlled in a functioning society, is going out of hand here. We’re just not ready for it.

What we’re good at, what our leaders are good at, and have been very good at for the last 40 years, is pouring money into the pockets of the rich and the corporate executives while everything else crashes.”

Noam Chomsky

Mar 19, 2020; COVID 2019, Code RED – …”We’ll do whatever it takes (to save our rich buddies)”

How is that capitalism? To have the government artificially suppress interest rates so that companies can borrow money for below free-market rates, use it to manipulate their own share price, and then when it comes crashing down, then the government bails them out. There is nothing about this that is anything like capitalism. These are not free markets. These markets are rigged by the government.

The latest from Dr. Chris.
Looking ahead.

Move along…

Yeah its pretty shitty looking.

But you know your purpose: stay healthy, continue working your prep plan, keep your head up, eyes ahead.

Wanker Bankers
An excellent overview said as plainly as possible.
From about 10 yrs ago.

“The market’s final euphoric top wasn’t driven by economic reality, phenomenal growth expectations, accelerating corporate profitability or rising consumer incomes and discretionary spending. Nope. The only real driver was the continuing expectation/belief Central Banking Authorities would continue to juice the market and distort prices the way they’ve been doing since they stumbled on monetary experimentation, QE and NIRP since the last crisis.

Now we know they were not a cure. They were hits of monetary addiction.

Just how dangerous we will shortly find out – just how damaging the unintended consequences the last eight years of market distortion have been. I suspect unravelling the damage will be long-term and extremely destabilising.

  • From The Plague Doctor to Plague Culture by Julian Vigo
  • What if we know When? by Bill Blain.
  • The Coming Bailout Is a Moral Failure by Franklin Foer. “Congress has leverage to rebalance the economy, but so far, it isn’t using it.”
  • The Coronavirus Called America’s Bluff by Anne Applebaum. “The United States, long accustomed to thinking of itself as the best, most efficient, and most technologically advanced society in the world, is about to be proved an unclothed emperor.”
  • Margin Call. by Ben Hunt. “It’s about whether your process empowered you – whether systematically or intuitively – to recognize when the world of risk and cross-asset relationships your models represented wasn’t the world at all, but a cartoon.” Wordy, a bit of a head scratcher but the concept is sound. We have been living a cartoon.

I have been attempting to show how unchecked greed has been the root cause of all that ails us. Truths we knew for sure, blatantly exposed as lies. But still we want happy answers. To have the onion layers peeled back is incredibly difficult to deal with.

  • Its a difficult task when people who just managed to pull their head from betwixt their butt cheeks start with WTF am I supposed to do now? Buy Toilet Paper at all Cost!!!!
  • It’s a difficult task when you have to consider the complexities of our life. Trying to grasp financial concepts in a day or two is tough. Your solution dear Fab Four, is to sit down and take 4.5 hours and watch the Crash Course. You’ve the time don’t you?? What the hell are you watching? The Price is Right? Oprah? Consider it a multi-layer removal device. A wrench for your head from your ass.
  • Its a difficult task when the avg person is scrambling.

Watch as our own governments give more money to corporations who do not deserve it: they expanded and borrowed without considering the risks, they performed sleight of hand business using share buy backs, they leveraged themselves using cheap money to make more money. They made shitty choices, AGAIN.

If we are going to borrow from the future to pay off yesterdays debts, how about giving the money to the people not the corporations. Let the dead blood sucking parasites die, and the new blood move in.

After all, if we live in a capitalistic society, shouldn’t they be judged by those rules rather than making us poor schleps pay for their screw ups??? Cause bailouts are SOCIALISM? aren’t they? Even worse CORPORATE SOCIALISM!

Call it what you want. It’s the rich bailing out the rich. Just because they went to the same private schools, attended the same clubs and generally greased the wheel for each other?

Stay the course! Nothing to see here! Move along!

If we are going to solve any of the immediate and long term GTBs coming at us, we have to stop the madness of continuous growth on the back of the average person, to the benefit of a small percentage (1.0% = oligarchs) . Check out the definition page for some more info. Its time you understood what these words mean.

As this unReality TV show implodes in front of our eyes, it’s critical to remember what’s important;

  • You are the only one who has immediate interest/control over things that will secure you in the short term.
  • You started by preparing with food, cleaning supplies etc. Continue to do so on a daily basis.
  • The best tool to fight the pandemic is not to get it. Stay strong on this as others won’t get it. Social isolation, hand washing, no face touching.
  • Stay positive, but be alert.

And for those of you who are looking for some hope, wrong site. I might have been giving some out 8 yrs ago. Now not so much. Because if we can’t deal with a simple pandemic, how to deal with Climate Change, Biosphere Collapse and the impending Oil Shock? They haven’t gone away.

Here’s your hope for today. Get to work.
