“It’s like we’ve turned Noah’s Ark into a humans-only party yacht and sailed it to the edge of Niagara Falls. There’s a million distractions aboard, but only three options as far as the waterfall goes. You can struggle against all odds to turn the ship around, stare numbly into the abyss or turn your back and dance.
My personal adaptation is to ricochet erratically between all three.”
~Arno Kopeck

We are surrounded by grim forecasts, hard to digest bumper sticker slogans masquerading as news items and the glorious Pollyanna outlook of the terminally insipid.

Why bother with another doom and gloom blog? I’ve three schools of thought on this:

  1.  I started reading Preparing for the Twenty First Century by Paul Kennedy back in 1999 (overpopulation is gonna get us). Far too dark for me at the time. Put it aside and pretended I didn’t read it. I was given a copy of the Long Emergency by James Kunstler in about 2007 (you know who you are) and that triggered my remembrance of Preparing. I was in the midst of developing a wind development company after almost 20 years in energy conservation and could not for the life of me understand peoples reluctance to adopt a conservation lifestyle. At the same time I was undergoing a massive overload of climate change info, and again no uptake by the great unwashed.
  2. Well, I’m a selfish bastard and after a few years  (OK decades) of internalizing, ranting and generally feeling really shitty about humans future prospects, I need an outlet! And lets be honest here, it’s not addressed to all human,s just the few friends and family who I care about.
  3. This blog is my way of coming to terms with how I feel. The equivalent to me going out on my front porch and yelling to the sky, “Why! WTF?!” (I have censored this, in an attempt to trap the unwary). I can guarantee one thing only. This site will not be PG 13.

I’m not a prepper or survivalist. Just a guy who reads a lot. From too many people, to not enough oil, I began reading human psychcology, finance, climate chaos, food/health issues and more. Since I’m reading it, I think others should as well. (it’s that selfish bastard gene, item # 2 above).

Its difficult to make a map for moving forward if you have no idea where you are, let alone which direction you face.

The expression Emerging MegaTrends came from an article I read years back (2013). click here to download. This article pretty much summarizes the situation; there are multiple civilization upsetting events coming, climate change is only one.

I’ll be posting articles addressing a few of the “Emerging Mega-trends” coming our way: biosphere, climate chaos, financial, food/water/health, peak oil/energy, society,  and whatever else seems relevant. Occasionally, when they come up, options.

If this helps you understand and prepare for what’s coming, good.
If it doesn’t, carry on. You can go here instead.

Otherwise read on.

As always, should you find anything that refutes the general idea of a horrific collapse of the civilization we know, or something indicates that this is all a bad dream, and/or it’s me who is nuts (rather than the entire planets’ population less myself and 3 part time readers), I’m open to a funner outlook.

Bring it.
