“…….So we are left with a stark choice: allow climate disruption to change everything about our world, or change pretty much everything about our economy to avoid that fate. But we need to be very clear: because of our decades of collective denial, no gradual, incremental options are now available to us.” –– Naomi Klein.

Its been a few months since the last post. Now seemed an appropriate time to write something, as the ongoing ritualistic worship/celebration of Over Consumption Madness hurtles towards us. What better time to celebrate by buying more shite, as we suck up the last vestige of our planet, so we can buy another shiney trinket all while ignoring again some much bigger issues. Markets are at an all time High! Yeah!

The end of August started to get pretty busy here on the homestead and the days just got sucked up with harvest, winter prep, etc. I had lots of time in my head during that period, while still managing to grab a few hours of reading each day. I’ve been questioning my voice during this time. Why bother posting? since the only people (The Three) who read this were in their own way down the trail of Understanding of the Bleakness-speaking to the converted so to speak. It wasn’t like newbies rushed in to gather new means of understanding!

Originally Aporia Cafe (the equivalent of screaming Fawwwwk! off my front porch each day) was to help people gather enough info to realize that Giant Turd Balls were rolling down hill in their and their families direction. I had two other sites in mind; a homesteading type blog and resilient communities blog. Well, “my eyes were bigger than my stomach” so to speak. Aporia grabbed an inordinate amount of time. The others none. Imagine that each article posted required about 10 articles be read and considered, general website housekeeping, and misc responses to things I was reading, and the hours are sucked into the vortex (flushing toilet) of blogging life. And one must not diminish the subsequent damage to brain and psyche that incurs. Speaking of brain damage, add to that the readings of the counter narrative, mostly so stridently wackadoodle that I couldn’t re-post, let alone digest, other than to throw in the bin labelled Why We are Most Truly Fucked.

To what end? It certainly added a cloud of darkness over my head, but as explained in a previous post ,“I’m reading this shite… so should you”. I have come to understand that I am no longer doing it for the mythical unknown fellow passenger of life who might glean a new understanding. If you haven’t figured out somethings amiss by now, I can’t help you. If you are quaking in the corner sucking your thumb, snot running down your face, again, can’t help. Most people have their spidey sense tingling, just not mentally able to absorb how loud the warning klaxons are. Fascinating stuff this … The rational human minds ability to say “All is Well!, Carry on”, in the face of overwhelming proof it isn’t. There is some serious denial going on and all indicators are that we simply are unable to comprehend a danger far in front of us that isn’t here and now. Our biological wiring says stay the course, eat and breed until those Turd Balls are in sight. And when a Turd Ball is rolling down my street, I am hardwired to run. Nada till then.

I post as a record for me. Posting allows me to organize the unravelling. (Tho, on that note I am looking for a fellow editor or two to add a different voice: mother or parent, 20 something, teen, someone other than me). I think the craziness has intensified since August. Chaos clouds swirl closer, people get angrier, nut jobs get elected promising a new and better world, all while staying the course. And since my mother is not reading this either, I can pretty much say what I want, as expletive filled as I choose, as rage induced mouth foam spittle accumulates on my display. I shall carry on. No intervention required.

I haven’t come across anything saying we are getting out of this easy like. Au contraire. All signals are flashing RED. Emerging Megatrends (aka Giant Turd Balls) are lumbering closer. I believe know that big shocks are coming. My generation, who for some reason feel it is going to happen to their grand kids (ie 2 generations away) act as if they can carry on as “Normal”. They will rue the day.

I do not see humanities ability to change backwards to a “less than now“ society. Any form of the New Green Deal will not deliver as promised. Quoting James Kunstler,” After a while I began to understand what lay behind this plea for “solutions.” They were clamoring desperately for rescue remedies that would allow them to continue living exactly the way they were used to living, with all the accustomed comforts ranging from endless driving to universal air-conditioning, cheap fast food, reliable electric service, NASCAR, Disney World, Walmart, and good jobs with a guaranteed comfortable retirement.”

Its simply a matter of looking at the numbers. How much do we consume?, how much waste do we generate? vs how much is left of this planet to abuse? For the number of people alive on this planet today and coming, consumption must drop to an 1890’s life style. And who wants that? Lets vote for more of the same! I ain’t giving up nuthin’, in fact I want more. I see cataclysmic pain for the people I care about. Sooner than most can conceptualize. Your grand kids won’t make it to the age you are now. Its just that shitty.

I re-found an author, Paul Chefurka, who had been writing 15 years ago on these same topics, and has subsequently stopped (I get it!). He wrote articles back in the first decade of 2000 that ring clear as a bell now. I am humbled at his eloquent grasp of whats coming….from a time long(ish) ago…

Climbing the Ladder of Awareness

(Paul Chefurka – Oct 19, 2012)

When it comes to our understanding of the unfolding global crisis, each of us seems to fit somewhere along a continuum of awareness that can be roughly divided into five stages:

  1. Dead asleep. At this stage there seem to be no fundamental problems, just some shortcomings in human organization, behaviour and morality that can be fixed with the proper attention to rule-making. People at this stage tend to live their lives happily, with occasional outbursts of annoyance around election times or the quarterly corporate earnings seasons.
  2. Awareness of one fundamental problem. Whether it’s Climate Change, overpopulation, Peak Oil, chemical pollution, oceanic over-fishing, biodiversity loss, corporatism, economic instability or sociopolitical injustice, one problem seems to engage the attention completely. People at this stage tend to become ardent activists for their chosen cause. They tend to be very vocal about their personal issue, and blind to any others.
  3. Awareness of many problems. As people let in more evidence from different domains, the awareness of complexity begins to grow.  At this point a person worries about the prioritization of problems in terms of their immediacy and degree of impact. People at this stage may become reluctant to acknowledge new problems – for example, someone who is committed to fighting for social justice and against climate change may not recognize the problem of resource depletion.  They may feel that the problem space is already complex enough, and the addition of any new concerns will only dilute the effort that needs to be focused on solving the “highest priority” problem.
  4. Awareness of the interconnections between the many problems. The realization that a solution in one domain may worsen a problem in another marks the beginning of large-scale system-level thinking. It also marks the transition from thinking of the situation in terms of a set of problems to thinking of it in terms of a predicament. At this point the possibility that there may not be a solution begins to raise its head.

People who arrive at this stage tend to withdraw into tight circles of like-minded individuals in order to trade insights and deepen their understanding of what’s going on. These circles are necessarily small, both because personal dialogue is essential for this depth of exploration, and because there just aren’t very many people who have arrived at this level of understanding.
  5. Awareness that the predicament encompasses all aspects of life.  This includes everything we do, how we do it, our relationships with each other, as well as our treatment of the rest of the biosphere and the physical planet. With this realization, the floodgates open, and no problem is exempt from consideration or acceptance. The very concept of a “Solution” is seen through, and cast aside as a waste of effort. Progress/Ideas/Hope

What if we Stopped Pretending? Climate Apocalypse is coming. What if we prepare by admitting we can’t stop it?

Climate Crisis (ecocide)

Climate Models Got It Right on Global Warming.

Financial (roller coaster)

  1. A “Market” That Needs $1 Trillion in Panic-Money-Printing by the Fed to Stave Off Implosion Is Not a Market. There’s something cooking with this repo market thingy on the US side. That Which is Not Quantitive Easing (TWNQE) has injected almost 1 trillion new dollars into the US financial system since Sept 2019. The repo system is in place to offer short term lending to institutions. The repo system stopped working. The Fed jumps in (quietly) and prints a shit ton of money….. and all is well? Best yet? Nope the bastards are hiding something…is it that banks won’t lend to other banks cause they don’t trust the other banks? is a bank or more in dire straights or is it other TomFuckery? Stay tuned to this.
  2. Hyperinflation, Money Demand, and the Crack-Up Boom.

Wrap it up, would ya?

…and BTW... Epstein did not kill himself. Quoth the Raven, episode # 139. Had to throw this podcast as a refresher on why its difficult impossible to believe any US government narrative (or any government). You can listen directly from the link or I use Castbox as my podcast player on my Android phone. I think other podcast players should have this episode.

Also is a part 2, episode # 146

If you’ve made it to here… well done. Now what?

As always, should you find anything that refutes the general idea of a horrific collapse of the only civilization we know, or that this is all a bad dream, or it’s me who is nuts (rather than the entire planets population, less myself and 3 part time readers), I’m open to a Funner outlook.

Bring it.

Please.
